In the field of education, the Macdonald Stewart Foundation has a long tradition of supporting the development of institutions of higher learning. Several Canadian universities have benefited from its assistance to start various projects related to their academic mission.
One example is the construction of the Macdonald Stewart Pavilion, the main building of Macdonald College in Sainte-Anne de Bellevue, home to McGill University's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Also on this campus, various innovative projects, including the Research Greenhouse, which allows teachers and scientists to conduct interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research in fields unexplored until now, the eco-residence erected to foster collaboration and information exchange between the various projects dedicated to the latest recycling techniques. the Water Resource Management Program to develop new strategies to manage water in a more integrated and sustainable manner. Also at McGill University, the restoration of the Macdonald Physics Pavilion, transformed into a library on physical sciences, and to the creation of McGill International, whose mission is to encourage cooperation with developing countries.
The founding of the Management Chair, the Tourism Chair, and the development of microelectronics laboratories at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), the development of the orientation room in the Concordia University Library, the construction of the Macdonald Pavilion to house the School of Hotel Management at Guelph University, the birth of the Institute L. M. Montgomery at the University of Prince Edward Island, and the educational internship program for art history students at Queen's University, as well as the David and Liliane Stewart Scholarship at the Maison des étudiants Canadiens à Paris, are among the projects linked to the Foundation.
